The Whirlpool washer F1E2 error code is a motor control error.
The ACU (main control board) motor circuit has an internal failure, or a voltage issue. This error can also be caused by a short loss of power to the control while in operation, like a power surge. If the error happens during the spin cycle, the unit will shut down and the the door will stay locked for 3 minutes. If the door fails to open after three minutes of restored power, it will need to be opened manually to reset the system.
To manually open the door remove the top of the washer. There are three screws on the back side of the washer lid at the rear of the washer, remove those screws and the lid will slide forward and lift off. Once you have the lid off, standing at the front of the washer look down on the right side on top of the door lock assemlby and you will see a white tab on top of it, pull that tab up and the door will open.
If after opening the door and trying to start a new cycle the F1E2 error returns on your whirlpool washer display then the main electronic control (The ACU) has failed and will have to be replaced. The replacement electronic control board and replacement instructions can be seen at the link below.
