F28 Error

Whirlpool Duet Washer F28 Error

Troubleshooting and Repair - F28 Error Code - WFW9200SQ00

The F28 error is a problem with input being sent between the two control boards. In this case it means that there is no communication being received by the central control unit from the user interface. This can be a wiring problem between the two boards, or one or both boards have failed. Check the wiring and connections at the boards and make sure they are all fully seated. Other than that you will need a ohm/volt meter and lots of time to pinpoint the problem.

Questions For Error Code F28

F28 code.... washer won’t start after hitting start button... model # whirlpool WFW9550WW00

Washer won’t start after hitting start button several times. Slamming the door sometimes starts it. Model # WFW9550WW00 ... code f28

The F28 error code on Whirlpool washer model number WFW9550WW00 means:

The communication between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU) cannot be sent correctly. Since it does work when you slam the door sometimes I  suspect the door lock assembly is causing your problem because the door switch may cause interference for the power supply of the MCU. So by slamming the door you are jarring the contacts inside the switch to make a better connection therefore it starts working. Replace your door lock assembly and that should fix it. The door lock assembly for your model is linked below. The site has new and used versions of the lock assembly so make sure you select the correct one from the condition drop-down box.

The video linked below shows how to replace it:

F32 then F28

Whirlpool Duet is the model for my washer. It got the error code F32 at first out of the blue. Then after I unplugged it and plugged it back in. It ran for a sec then now displayed F28. Which error should I look into ? And is it something I can easily fix?? Thanks

The F28 error is a bad error code because it means the user interface board and the main control board can't communicate with one another. The reason it's such a problematic error is that many different components can cause failure. The troubleshooting steps are listed below, but you will need an ohm/volt meter and know how to use it to trace down the issue in most cases. You can start by doing the following:

1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.

2. Check wire harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU). – Check links of the CCU board within the housing. – Make sure all grounding switches are engaged.

3. Check the drive system for any worn or failed components.

4. Plugin washer or reconnect power.

5. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic Test or any cycle.

6. Check the MCU by looking for services of the drive motor.

7. Check the drive motor for powered rotations. 8. Check that the serial harness at the MCU is not mounted upside down. The wires should be to the left when facing the MCU connectors.

Below I have included a link to the tech sheet for those models. So you will have directions to use diagnostic mode.
