Hi , I keep getting this code on my washer . I unplug it for a while and it will then work . Should I replace the door latch or could it be the door strike ? It keeps clicking when I turn it on and then get code . Thanks
The Whirlpool washer dL error code is a door lock error.
When you start a cycle the ACU ( main control board) will attempt to lock the door up to 6 times. If the door fails to lock the ACU will shut the machine down and report the dL error, although the error is actually saved in the control as F5E2 you will see dL displayed on the user interface.
Things to check:
• Check for loose connections on the wiring from the door lock switch assembly to the ACU ( main control board). Make sure all connectors are seated properly.
• Be sure you do not have the washer overloaded and that the load is inside the washer drum and is not blocking or putting pressure on the washer door.
• If all the above looks good unplug the washer for a few minutes and restore power, if after restoring power the F5E1 error persists replace the door lock assembly.
The replacement door lock assembly can be ordered from the link below.

Yes replace the door lock assembly.
I have a Whirlpool WFW72HEDW0 and i received the error F5 E2. The above instructions did not work. What is the correct part number I need to replace?
The part you need to fix that problem is the door lock assembly and the part for that model can be ordered from the link below:
Hello, we received the error F5 E2 and inspection of the door lock showed that it was not engaging and was very dirty. I fussed with it and ultimately got it to engage but then would not open (meaning it could not receive the door and the door would not close). At that point I ordered and replaced the door lock piece. Connected everything just as it was and now the door closes great but I am still receiving the error. Unplugged and plugged back in and still the same F5 E2. Wires and connections are intact. Could this be a circuit board problem? Is it time to call an expert or is there still something I could do myself?
Hello Mike,
Visually check that the J5 (door switch/ temperature sensor) and J9 (door lock) connectors are inserted all the way into the ACU (The main control). If the connections are good follow the instructions provided below, enter service mode and clear all stored error codes.
Step 1: Activate Service Mode
Step 2: Clear Stored Error Codes
Step 3: Unplug the washer for one full minute and restore power and try to start a Cycle.
If the above steps did not work you would need to replace the ACU. If you need the part number, submit a new question with your model number and I will give you the correct part number to order.
